What if we combine a signaling mechanism with a nonlinear television environment? And even more, what if we allow the information to flow in any direction?
This is how the concept of “Nonlinear Signaled Television” was born.
A nonlinear signaled television (NLSTV) brings back the time as an essential ingredient for the nonlinear environment. News and live shows can now be broadcast as soon as they are available.
Maybe in the future the syntagm “eight o'clock news” would have no meaning, or at least it would mean only what it says: the news that happened at eight o'clock. In a NLSTV environment there would be no need to re-broadcast the important news at the end of the day, everything would be already in the system.
The other important aspect is that there are no pre-established broadcasters and receivers. Any member of a NLSTV environment can broadcast information. The result creates its own identity revealing unexplored technical challenges, social implications and business models.
